Scar Reduction

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is considered the gold-standard treatment for reducing the appearance of scars and other common surface abnormalities.

Dr. Krishingner uses the state-of-the-art Icon laser – a fractional, non-ablative device that works by delivering rapid-pulse, precision beams of light deep into the dermis of your skin – to stimulate collagen renewal and decrease tissue laxity.

Icon laser skin resurfacing is less invasive and requires little recovery time between sessions compared to treatments done with ablative lasers, which remove the top layers of skin to trigger the production of new collagen.

How does the Icon laser reduce the appearance of scars?

When the Icon laser directs microbeams of energy deep into the dermal tissues that make up your scars, it makes miniscule perforations that cause them to break down. Because laser energy simultaneously prompts the production of new, healthy tissues, the treatment makes your scars less noticeable and leaves your skin looking smoother, tighter, and more uniform.

The Icon laser can be used to treat scars on any part of your body, and is an ideal choice for patients who want to reduce the appearance of widespread scarring, such as those caused by chronic acne.

The technology diminishes the appearance of stretch marks and age spots in a similar fashion, targeting discoloration and stimulating collagen to improve skin uniformity.

What is the procedure like?

Before you begin, Dr. Krishingner will give you eye shields to protect your corneas and retinas from the laser. He may also apply a cryogen spray or anesthetic cream to the treatment area to enhance your comfort level as he passes the laser over each scar.

Laser scar reduction treatments can last anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour, depending on the number, quality, and size of the scars you’re treating. You may feel a sensation of heat during the treatment, but most patients don’t find it too bothersome.

Many patients get the results they’re looking for after multiple treatments scheduled over the course of several weeks.

Am I a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

The Icon laser is safe and effective for all skin types, making it a feasible treatment option for almost anyone who has unwanted scars or other common skin imperfections. Because it's even safe to use on the most delicate or sensitive skin, the Icon laser can treat scarring on virtually any area of your body.

After assessing your scars and going over your medical history, Dr. Krishingner can let you know if scar reduction through laser skin resurfacing is right for you.
