Sure, getting older has its perks — with age comes experience, wisdom, and a broader perspective. But every time you add a well-earned candle to your birthday cake, chances are you also see another wrinkle or two in the mirror. While you may expect wrinkles and fine lines, you don’t have to live with them. At Laser & Aesthetics Studio of Winter Park in Winter Park, Florida, Dr. Gene Krishingner, Jr. offers Botox® Cosmetic injections to help you diminish the appearance of wrinkles and keep your skin looking fresh. How does Botox work?

Botox Type A, also known as Botox Cosmetic, is a natural, purified protein that safely and effectively helps erase fine lines and reduces the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Botox is formulated from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, a neurotoxin that leaves your skin looking naturally smooth by blocking the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract.

When small doses of the purified protein are injected at specific points in your facial anatomy, it causes the underlying muscles to relax, which effectively decreases the appearance of wrinkles.

What areas of the face can Botox benefit?

Botox is widely considered one of the most effective tools for the temporary reduction of dynamic wrinkles, or the deeper lines that are caused by repeated facial muscle patterns and everyday facial expressions. Botox is FDA-approved to treat:

  • Angry 11s, or the vertical lines between the eyebrows
  • Worry lines, or the horizontal furrows in the forehead
  • Crow’s feet, or the small laugh lines around the eyes

Even though Botox can also have a noticeable effect on static wrinkles – the finer lines caused by things like sun damage, genetics, or smoking – these wrinkles can usually be reduced more effectively by laser skin resurfacing treatments.

What is a Botox treatment like?

After Dr. Krishingner makes sure you’re a suitable candidate for Botox, you’ll discuss your cosmetic goals and he’ll let you know exactly what you can expect during your session.

The procedure itself is relatively quick, usually taking no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete. Most patients get the results they’re looking for by having several small injections throughout the treatment area.

Even if you’re not a fan of needles, you needn’t worry — Botox is administered through exceptionally small needles, so the injections themselves are virtually painless.

Botox also carries very few risks and potential side effects. Any minor swelling or redness you may experience immediately following your session are usually mild and short-lived. In addition, Botox doesn’t require any recovery or downtime, which means you don’t have to wait to resume your normal activities.

When will I see results, and how long will they last?

The reason that Botox Cosmetic is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic treatments is because it delivers immediate results. In fact, most patients start seeing noticeably smoother skin just a day or two after treatment.

Botox delivers continuous results that last an average of six months, and may last up to one year. If you’re interested in maintaining your new, younger-looking skin without time limits, all you have to do is make regular appointments for a Botox boost.
